It’s no secret. If you’re blessed to have a great boss, you are indeed fortunate. Unfortunately, good bosses find greener pastures and move on or sometimes it's time for you to move on and become the boss.
If you have been putting in your time to build your business and it is growing to the point that you feel secure enough to leave, why not write a personalized thank you to your boss for showing you how to be a good boss. Don't rush it. Make sure of your plan. You never know when your paths will cross again and no sense in burning bridges. It doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated. (It’s as easy as writing a thank-you card or note.) We’ve all done that before. It will take just a few minutes of your time.
Keep it simple, you can write your letter by hand. Write it on stationery for a special touch. Or why not write it on a boss's goodbye card?
Using this guide below, you’ll be creating your own letter of goodbye to your boss in no time.
“Dear Boss…
Have you heard the good news? I'm leaving!
While it has been great here, it will leave an empty space in my heart. It's time to move on. I’m sure you realize that.
You know, not every boss is as great as you. Which got me thinking… What is it that makes one boss more special than the others?
Although I can only speak for myself, here are a few of the reasons I appreciate you…You saw me as a person, in an age where so many employees are viewed as ‘pawns.’ I can’t even describe what a difference that has made for me. I can tell you this much. It kept me getting out of bed to show up at work each morning.
You treated me fairly and allowed for a true working relationship between us. I’ve worked long work weeks when needed. And not once did you hesitate to send me home when my young daughter was sick at day. You are an inspiration to the workforce.
You took the time to ask about my children. You remembered that I work to support them. You even asked how young Emily’s birthday went. And you asked me if I needed a few extra days off work to care for her when she was sick. You helped me get back on track when I returned to work from maternity leave. You recognized my challenge after my accident and you helped me deal with it without calling attention to it. You moved me forward until I had my mojo back. You never said a word about it, but you knew I still wanted to be a stay at home Mom with my newborn baby. It's not easy being a SWAT Mom.
For these special moments and others too numerous to mention, I thank you for being there for me. I feel honored to have been one of your employees. You have inspired me.
I wish you and yours the best, Boss. Who knows? It’s a small world. One day soon, we may just meet up again.
Until then…”
